Acuneedling – What is it and how can it help during pregnancy, labour and postnatally? Today I chat with Lauretta of Ballarat Born about the benefits of acuneedling / acupuncture during the perinatal period. Most pregnant women who come close to or pass their due date are likely to have heard that acupuncture is one recommendation to avoid medical induction of labour. But apart from this, a lot of us are fairly unaware of the further benefits of acupuncture during pregnancy, in labour and postnatally. Did you know there’s research supporting acupuncture as a way to relieve or lessen the severity of nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy… How many of us needed a bit of a hand in that department!? Or at the end of pregnancy, in relieving back and pelvic pain (umm, yes please, I’d take any help I could in those last few weeks). Then there’s positioning of baby – turning breech babies or posterior babies into more optimal birthing positions. Acupuncture and acupressure also help during labour as a form of pain relief. And then postnatally, for recovery and things like blocked ducts and mastitis. Who would have thought!?!
So catch me chatting with Lauretta about this and so much more.
